Community investment

Every year we contribute to the local communities in which we operate through:

  • Community investment activities
  • Local community sponsorships
  • Charitable donations
  • Employee volunteering
  • Providing in-kind donations

Together CCGB and CCE contributed over £1.5 million to community projects in 2008.

We invest in programmes at each of our sites to help young people achieve their best through:

  • Supporting them during education
  • Encouraging them to take part in physical activity

Support for Caravan

CCE is an active member and financial contributor to Caravan.

This a charity that supports people who have worked in the grocery or provisions trade and now need extra help to get by. We work with other manufacturers and retailers to support a welfare system for needy people and an education programme to raise financial awareness.

In 2008, CCE won a Gold Achievement Award at the inaugural Caravan Achievement Awards.

To qualify for a Gold award, candidates have to meet five criteria:

  • Committing volunteers to national committees
  • Supporting both local and regional events
  • Taking part in annual fundraising activities
  • Identifying potential beneficiaries
  • Committing to a corporate charitable donation.

I know that a huge amount of work and a lot of time has been spent on the support for Caravan across the business, and I would like to extend my personal thanks to those involved for the time they give up to support this great cause. They are a credit to the business and the industry overall.

Gillian Barker,
Director General,

Community
We support a wide range of initiatives in the community and try to help young people be their best through supporting education and sports initiatives. In 2008 our Wakefield Education Centre hosted its 30,000th student and the East Kilbride Centre its 15,000th student.

You can get involved in your community in so many ways. Check out your local paper and look for volunteering opportunities around your area or through volunteering sites like http://www.do-it.org/
