Industry commitments

Coca-Cola works with industry partners at a national and global level to help reduce water use.  We are also working with the international community to meet the world's water challenges.

Federation House Commitment

We were one on the founding signatories of the Federation House Commitment - a joint agreement by food and drink companies in the UK and the UK Government programme Envirowise. This aims for a 20% reduction in industry-wide water use by 2020 - outside of that embedded in products themselves.

Our main commitments in the agreement are to:

  1. Develop a 2007 baseline of water use
  2. Assess water use at each manufacturing site
  3. Develop site specific action plans
  4. Deliver against action plans
  5. Provide annual progress reports to Envirowise on water and cost savings

The Food and Drink Federation and Envirowise jointly issued the first annual report under the commitment in July 2009.

"The Federation House Commitment will help Coca-Cola to achieve their water reduction goals, as set out in the FDF's Five-Fold Environmental Ambition.  We are very pleased that Coca-Cola have signed up to this Commitment which we hope will urge more companies in the sector to follow the leadership and commitment being shown by Coca-Cola to making a real difference to the environment."

Andrew Kuyk, Food and Drink Federation (FDF), Director of Sustainability and Competitiveness.

We have already exceeded our target to meet the Federation House Commitment, which commits us to reduce our water use by 20% by 2020. We have achieved a 42% reduction since 2007, against a 9% increase in volume.
