Welcome to the 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report for the Coca-Cola business in Great Britain.
Corporate responsibility and sustainability are not optional
extras for our businesses to make us feel good about ourselves. Nor
are they marketing ploys to separate us in the eyes of consumers
from our rivals. They must be at the very heart of our business and
our approach - central to what we do, how we operate and what we
offer. If they aren't, we will soon pay the price.
Sustainability is not about altruism or - as some might still
think - enlightened self-interest. It is self-interest, pure and
simple. It is the fundamental recognition that without healthy and
sustainable communities and planet, there can't be healthy and
sustainable businesses.
It means achieving our growth and our success without damaging
others. It is a change of approach - almost a revolution - that
demands of all of us a new level of accountability and
responsibility.

We believe corporate responsibility is a vital part of how we can use the power and appeal of our brands and the scale, reach and diversity of our business to make a positive difference to create meaningful change here in Great Britain. We would not pretend that Coca-Cola - nationally or globally - has all the answers or that we are yet doing everything we can. We are still learning.
But under both businesses' global leadership, sustainability and responsibility have been put at the heart of our companies and this is having a huge impact on how we look at ourselves and how we operate.
We have not yet reached our destination, but we are, we believe, at least moving in the right direction.
We hope you find reading about our commitments to corporate responsibility, our recent activity and our future plans interesting.
