Age Awareness
At both CCE and CCGB we welcome candidates of all ages. Our policies and processes are firmly in line with the new age legislation. At CCE we undertook specific action to address the issue of age awareness ahead of the introduction of new age discrimination legislation. An Age Project Team was established to review all CCE policies to ensure that they were age-neutral. In addition, all employees were given training on the issue and an internal communications campaign, involving a series of posters, flyers and age-awareness messages on employee payslips, to boost age awareness was undertaken during 2006.
As a result of the campaign we witnessed a 12% increase in new recruits over-40 during 2006 and by the end of the year, 40% of CCE’s British workforce was over 40. We have since developed an age-balanced scorecard that will help us to continue to improve this representation.
In 2006 Coca-Cola Enterprises received the Employer Outstanding Achievement Award at the Age Positive Awards, part of a campaign run by the UK Government's Department for Work and Pensions. The award recognised CCE’s training program to educate and inform staff about age issues. For the second year running in 2007 we gained Age Positive “Employer Champion” status for our commitment to a workplace in which employees of all ages are treated fairly. The Employers Forum on Age, an independent network of leading employers, also awarded CCE the Best Age Discrimination Communications Campaign Award in 2006. CCE has also recently joined EnAge a network group facilitated by Help The Aged. For more information please go to www.efa.org.uk
